Meet Anshu Arora:

Joy Lab Academy's New Education Director

At Joy Lab Academy, we believe that the people who shape a learning environment matter just as much as the curriculum itself. We sat down with our newly appointed Education Director, Anshu Arora, to learn about her journey, her philosophy, and her vision for Joy Lab.

From Banking to Education: A Journey Toward Purpose

Anshu's path to education wasn't a straight line — and that's exactly what makes her perspective so rich. She began her career in banking before making a pivotal transition into the world of learning and teaching. "I describe myself as a learner, dreamer, and traveller," she says. What ultimately drew her to education was a deep, natural connection with children and a desire to create meaningful impact. Over time, she found her true calling in designing learning experiences that help children grow, discover themselves, and feel genuinely empowered.

A Vision Rooted in Joy and Safety

When asked what excites her most about joining Joy Lab Academy, Anshu's answer is clear: the opportunity to co-create a space where children are truly seen, heard, and supported. Her vision is both simple and powerful — every child should feel safe, joyful, and appropriately challenged, so they can discover their strengths and reach their full potential. She is especially inspired by the freedom to design meaningful experiences and build an environment where it is safe to try, fail, reflect, and grow.

What Makes Learning Truly Transformative

For children ages 8–13, Anshu believes transformation happens when learning feels meaningful, relevant, and connected to real life. In her view, a truly powerful learning environment is one where children are free to explore and express ideas, safe to make mistakes, encouraged to think critically and creatively, and supported in developing both academic and life skills. Families at Joy Lab can expect an experience that goes far beyond academics — one that prepares children for life, not just school.

Education as Head, Heart, Hand, and Soul

Anshu brings a uniquely diverse background to her role — weaving together experience in banking, education, and learning design. She describes herself as a designer at heart, and she holds a deeply holistic view of what education can be. "I believe education is the integration of the head, heart, hand, and soul," she shares, "and children deserve opportunities to engage fully in all dimensions of their being." Her experience working with diverse groups of children has shaped her commitment to personalization, empathy, and intentional design in every learning experience she creates.

A Message to JP Families

For families in Jamaica Plain who are curious about Joy Lab but aren't quite sure if it's the right fit, Anshu has a simple and open-hearted invitation: "Give your child's learning a chance to be reimagined. Come explore what Joy Lab Academy can offer. Sometimes, a new beginning starts with simply being open to a different way of learning."

We are so proud to have Anshu leading the educational vision at Joy Lab Academy. Stay tuned — there is so much more to come.
